On 12 May 2025, the Allianz für Kritische und Solidarische Wissenschaft (KriSol), alongside numerous civil society organizations including the Association of Palestinian and Jewish Academics (PJA), issued an open letter to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The letter calls on him to cancel his planned state visit to Israel, marking the 60th anniversary of German-Israeli relations, in light of Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza and the West Bank. Citing tens of thousands of civilian deaths, the blockade of humanitarian aid, and proceedings before international courts, the signatories urge the President to uphold Germany’s legal and moral obligations under international law. They propose an alternative: a platform for voices of peace and justice from across Israeli and Palestinian society.
