Together with the German Middle East Studies Association (DAVO) and the Alliance for Critical and Solidary Scholarship (KriSol), the Association of Palestinian and Jewish Academics (PJA) has issued a joint statement expressing concern about reactions by the Hertie School leadership and the Hertie Foundation to a resolution adopted by the student representatives regarding BDS and divestment from human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
We stress that student political positions fall within the scope of constitutionally protected freedom of expression and student self-governance. We call on the Hertie School and the Hertie Foundation to respect academic freedom, protect student representatives from pressure or sanctions, and ensure that universities remain spaces for open and pluralistic debate.
